The Winter Festival began today and will run until Sunday across the entire capital region. This year, the focus is on the great outdoors and experiences, art in public spaces, outdoor artworks, cultural landmarks and light art installations. Visitors to the festival in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur are encouraged to experience light art, take part in a family workshop and a smart tour of outdoor artworks, go to a drive-in cinema and an afternoon concert, or go for a swim and visit a museum! Entry to the town's museums and swimming pools is free for children aged 17 and under.<\/p>\n

Light art, drive-in cinema and smart tour<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Flensborgarsk\u00f3linn and Hamarinn have been lit up in the signature colours of the Winter Festival, green and purple, and artworks from the Hafnarborg collection have been projected onto the east wall of the art museum. On Saturday, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and the National Film Archive of Iceland are hosting a drive-in cinema in the car park at Flensborg School, where two classic Icelandic films, Reg\u00edna and Me\u00f0 allt \u00e1 hreinu, will be shown. The Library of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, in collaboration with Hafnarborg, is organising a digital interweaving of form and sound around the outdoor art installations in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's town centre and has laid out c.a. a 40-minute walk between selected outdoor artworks, which are marked with a QR code, providing a short introduction to each piece directly on your smartphone.<\/p>\n

Afternoon Tones and Outdoor Arts Workshop<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Singer-songwriter Svavar Kn\u00fatur, accompanied by a band, will perform at the fifth concert in the S\u00ed\u00f0degist\u00f3nar concert series at Hafnarborg on Friday, 5th February. The concert will be streamed live on Facebook and hafnarborg.is. On Saturday, Hafnarborg invites families to come and take part in a creative outdoor art workshop outside the museum, where open-ended materials will be used. Participants are encouraged to experiment and create their own outdoor artworks and share a photograph of their creation under the hashtag #mitteigi\u00f0\u00fatdoor art work<\/strong><\/em>. Participation in the workshop is free of charge for visitors, and all materials will be provided. Visitors to the 2021 Winter Festival are encouraged to dress warmly and practise good personal hygiene wherever they go. A reminder that the number of visitors in the swimming pools can be monitored in real time on the town's website while Covid-19 restrictions are still in force.<\/a> <\/p>\n
