The close contact rule will be 1 metre instead of two, applying equally to students and staff. Masks will only be required if it is not possible to maintain the 1-metre rule. At all school levels, except for higher education, parents, carers and other visitors will be permitted to enter school buildings, provided that public health regulations are followed. These are the main changes to the restrictions on school activities decided by the Minister of Health, in accordance with the recommendations of the Director of Public Health and in consultation with the Ministry of Education and Culture. The new regulation on restrictions for school activities is in force until 30 April.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjornarradid.is\/efst-a-baugi\/frettir\/stok-frett\/2021\/02\/23\/COVID-19-Lett-a-takmorkunum-i-skolastarfi-fra-24.-februar\/\">See the announcement on the website of the Ministry of Education and Culture.<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As has been the case, there are no capacity limits for pupils in nurseries; they are exempt from the rules on distancing and the rules on wearing face coverings. In primary schools, up to 150 pupils will be permitted in each room, but as before, pupils in Years 1 to 10 are exempt from the rules on distancing and the use of face coverings.<\/p>\n<p>The rules of the music school will take into account comparable school stages.<\/p>\n<p>Events related to social activities in nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and in music schools will be permitted in school buildings, subject to the limits on numbers and proximity that apply to the relevant school stage.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Events where guests sit:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It will be permitted to hold events in schools in accordance with <a class=\"internal\" href=\"\/en\/province\/news\/covid-19-fjoldatakmork-verda-50-manns-fra-24.-februar\/\">General rules on gathering restrictions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjornarradid.is\/library\/04-Raduneytin\/Heilbrigdisraduneytid\/ymsar-skrar\/Minnisbla%c3%b0%20s%c3%b3ttvarnal%c3%a6knis%20dags.%2021.%20feb.%20sk%c3%b3lar-%20r%c3%adkisstj%c3%b3rn%2023.%20feb.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memorandum from the Chief Medical Officer<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Key changes in the new regulation:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4><em><strong>Pre-schools<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Kindergartens are permitted, at the discretion of local authorities, to operate in school buildings with 1-metre social distancing requirements between staff. If this is not possible, face masks must be worn.<\/li>\n<li>There shall be no more than 50 adults in each room.<\/li>\n<li>Parents, carers and others must exercise caution when entering the school building and observe social distancing. They must maintain a distance of at least 1 metre from each other and from staff.<\/li>\n<li>Events related to the work or social life of a nursery school, such as plays and concerts, are permitted in school buildings with the aforementioned limits on numbers and proximity. If the maximum number of adults exceeds 50, the rules on gathering restrictions according to the regulation on the limitation of gatherings shall apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><em><strong>Primary schools<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Primary schools are permitted, at the discretion of local authorities, to maintain school operations in school buildings with 1-metre social distancing between staff. If this is not possible, face masks must be worn.<\/li>\n<li>There shall be no more than 50 staff members in any one room. This also applies to leisure centres, organised youth and leisure activities, as well as activities in community centres.<\/li>\n<li>Students are exempt from social distancing requirements and the requirement to wear a face covering. There shall be no more than 150 students in any indoor space.<\/li>\n<li>Parents, carers and other visitors must exercise caution when entering the school building and observe social distancing. They must maintain a minimum distance of 1 metre between themselves and from staff.<\/li>\n<li>Events related to primary school work or social life, such as lectures, reading competitions, etc., are permitted in school buildings with the aforementioned restrictions on numbers and proximity.<\/li>\n<li>If the maximum number of adults is exceeded, the rules on gathering restrictions under the regulation on gathering restrictions apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><em><strong>Secondary schools<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<p>School activities at the upper secondary school level, in community colleges, youth centres and further education are permitted, provided that students and staff can maintain a distance of at least 1 metre from one another and the number of students and staff never exceeds 150 in any one space. Where it is not possible to maintain a 1-metre distance, students and staff must wear face coverings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Events related to the work or social life of a secondary school, such as lectures, debating competitions, etc., are permitted in school buildings with the aforementioned limits on numbers and proximity. Where the maximum number exceeds 150, the rules on gathering restrictions under the regulation on gathering restrictions shall apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><em><strong>Universities<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>In all university buildings, academic activities are permitted provided that students and staff can maintain a distance of at least 1 metre from one another, and the number of students and staff in any teaching or study space does not exceed 150. Where it is not possible to maintain a 1-metre distance, students and staff must wear face coverings.<\/li>\n<li>There shall be no more than 50 employees in each room.<\/li>\n<li>Mixing of students and teachers between groups is permitted.<\/li>\n<li>Events related to university work or social life are permitted in university buildings.
