A supportive community for people with dementia and their families <\/em><\/p>\n

Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur municipality and The Alzheimer's Society<\/a> wrote
\ntoday under a cooperation declaration on the implementation of a friendly community,
\nsupportive and aware of the needs of people with dementia and their carers. Thus, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, with professional
\nwith the help and strong support of the Alzheimer's Society, deliberately marking the path of those who
\nare dementia-friendly by promoting both awareness and knowledge
\nof the staff and residents of the municipality. Increased awareness among all promotes well-being and
\nthe safety of this vulnerable group, but it is believed that 4,000-5,000 individuals live with
\ndementia in Iceland, of whom approximately 250 are under the age of 65.
\nA significant increase can be expected as the nation's age rises. <\/p>\n

\"ZeroR\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, and \u00c1rni Sverrisson, Chairman of the Board of the Alzheimer's Association, signed a declaration of cooperation at the B\u00e6jarb\u00ed\u00f3 today.<\/sup><\/p>\n

Let's take good care of all the less fortunate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To mark the start of the project, a small group
\nand a good-natured promotional meeting was held at the Town Cinema where interesting presentations were given.
\na presentation by professionals on the project's objectives, purpose and importance, as well as R\u00f3sa
\nGu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, Mayor of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Svand\u00eds Svavarsd\u00f3ttir, Minister of Health
\nand First Lady Eliza Reid delivered a short address, but Mrs Eliza Reid has been a patron
\nof the Alzheimer's Association for several years. The stated aim of the project is to raise awareness.
\nand everyone's knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases and build a community that shows them
\nrespect, understanding and support for people with dementia and their families. <\/p>\n

\u201eHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is a supportive community and now
\nWe want to do even better and place a special emphasis on our people who forget.
\nby raising everyone's awareness of the importance of being friendly and supportive
\nto those individuals who forget and their carers. We are friendly and
\na good community and we should be aware of our neighbours, colleagues and
\nother fellow travellers. We must all pull together to make individuals
\nwith dementia able to live a good and fulfilling life in a supportive and
\na safe society\u201c<\/em> says R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir, the mayor
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. \u201eThis is achieved, among other things, through increased education and knowledge of
\ndementias.\u201c<\/em> <\/p>\n

\"Zero<\/em>The choir of \u00d6ldut\u00fanssk\u00f3li in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur performed several well-chosen songs for the occasion. <\/sup><\/p>\n


Comprehensive education for all interested parties<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the coming weeks and months, it will take place.
\nTraining for, e.g., staff of the council's institutions and swimming pools, interested parties
\nresidents and staff of shops and other service businesses in the town about
\ndementia and a supportive community. In addition to what will be advertised
\nInterested mentors from among the staff and residents who receive special training
\nand educational material to take back to their groups and\/or colleagues. Thus
\nThe City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur will be a leader in educating and training its staff, among others.
\nand residents about dementia and appropriate support. The aim is that all
\nthe City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's workplaces become supportive workplaces, but to receive
\nThe accreditation requires that at least 50% of all staff at a site have been awarded.
\nappropriate education. <\/p>\n

The Alzheimer's Association is working on this at the moment.
\nto establish a service centre at St. J\u00f3's Wellbeing Centre in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur for those who
\nhave been diagnosed with dementia and their carers, and especially those who
\nare diagnosed at a young age. The establishment of the service centre marks a significant milestone and
\na revolution in services for people with dementia and their families. Hopes
\nThe service centre is set to open in autumn 2021. <\/p>\n
