Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur never stops being on environmental watch. The project \u201eThe Environmental Watch\u201c<\/strong> is concerned with the maintenance and beautification of the town, and the aim, as ever, is to promote residents' environmental awareness, a more beautiful town and increased cleanliness. Associations and groups in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur are offered the opportunity to monitor the environment, i.e. to undertake the cleaning of a designated area, in return for financial support for their activities.<\/p>\n Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur has been divided into twelve areas. In each area, the emphasis is on cleaning up rubbish and debris along main paths and main roads, including streams and ponds, the coastline, natural lava fields, and open and green spaces. The groups that are selected will clean their area twice a year.,<\/em> once during the period 1 May \u2013 1 June and once during the period 1\u201330 September.<\/p>\n See the regional breakdown here<\/a><\/p>\n All clubs, associations and groups in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur are invited to apply to take part in the Environmental Watch. There is one group per area, and a total of twelve groups can partner with the town on the project. When allocating areas, the composition of the group and the nature of the area, i.e. how accessible it is, will be taken into account. Each group must have a leader who will liaise with the Council's Operations Department and arrange, in consultation with them, when and how the clean-up will be carried out. If groups composed of children or young people apply to participate (e.g. junior sections of sports clubs or scout groups), the condition is set that the group leader and a responsible adult must be an adult, and furthermore that adults must work with the children during the clean-up. The reason for this is primarily safety, as the clean-up will take place in areas where hazards may be present, such as near roads, streams and the coast.<\/p>\n The accompanying information for group applications must state the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n Staff from the Environmental and Planning Services of the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur monitor the work and implementation in each area, assess how the work is being carried out, and make recommendations for improvements as necessary, as well as arranging for the disposal of the rubbish.
