The method is well-known in the United States and further afield, and is used, for example, in all state schools in Boston. The main aims of UDL are to identify barriers in the learning environment and remove them in order to accommodate all learners on their own terms. The assumption is that the barriers are in the environment, not the student. The methodology includes all students, supports inclusive education and promotes greater equity. One of the reasons the headteachers of Skarðshlíðarskóli and Lækjarskóli decided to implement UDL is that they want to strengthen the schools' learning community, a community where everyone is included. UDL involves, among other things, teachers sharing their visions and values through professional reflection and collaboration, as well as making students aware of their own learning, increasing their responsibility for it, and making others in the community aware of what is happening within the schools and giving them the opportunity to influence it.

The aim is to implement the UDL methodology in the school communities of Lækjarskóli and Skarðshlíðarskóli. It will subsequently be decided which elements of the project will be addressed, as only a partial grant was received.

Among the possible measures:

Teach staff the UDL methodology

To enhance the professionalism of teachers by increasing their support for one another, with the aim of improving students' learning and well-being.

Find light-bearers in the staff who are ready to take on the task, experiment, and infect others with their enthusiasm and success.

Working with teachers to use a wider range of methods to meet the competency standards and giving students more choice in how they are met.

Identify and analyse barriers in students' learning environment

Engage students in taking control of their own learning.

To make students aware of how they learn and which learning methods suit them best.

Make students responsible for their own learning

To introduce and make parents and others in the school community aware of what UDL is about, what methods are used and the success that results from these methods.

With UDL as a guiding principle, the aim is to better meet the needs, development and abilities of students, which will hopefully lead to improved well-being and academic achievement. A strong emphasis is placed on engaging pupils in their own learning, on them being aware of their own strengths, having a say in their learning and being responsible for demonstrating it in the way they see fit. Parents and others in the school community are being involved in this improvement project in a variety of ways, through dialogue, information sessions and surveys. The estimated time for full implementation is 5-7 years.

[12

post-14640","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-frettir
["GET
