The Oddfellows' Benevolent and Relief Fund and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur sign an agreement on the construction of day centres for the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Associations at St. J\u00f3.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the last day of winter, the Oddfellows' Relief and Benevolent Fund (StLO) and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur finalised an agreement for the refurbishment of the day centres for the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Associations on the 3rd floor of the St. J\u00f3 Wellbeing Centre at 41 Su\u00f0urgata in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. Work has been underway to finalise the agreement, which involves StLO taking full responsibility for the works on the 3rd floor and bearing the associated costs, in return for the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur entering into 15-year lease agreements with the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Associations.<\/p>\n

The Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Association will establish day centres on the 3rd floor of the Quality of Life Centre for individuals who have recently been diagnosed with dementia or Parkinson's. The day centres are designed to work proactively to maintain the quality of life of those affected through comprehensive training and advice, while also providing education and support for their carers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201eIt is extremely pleasing to finalise an agreement on this important project. The Borough of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is a health-promoting community, and part of this is to revive the old St. Joseph's Hospital and breathe new life into it with activities aimed at maintaining and enhancing people's quality of life. The presence of the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Association on the 3rd floor of the building for the next 15 years is a vital cornerstone for its future operations. Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is also a Dementia Friendly City, which means we have committed to developing a community that is friendly, supportive and aware of the needs of people with dementia and their carers.
