The St. George's Guild in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is building a new toilet block by Hvaleyrarvatn.<\/em><\/p>\n

At the end of May, a new building, which houses both toilets and facilities for washing up and refilling water, was opened on the southern side of Lake Hvaleyrarvatn, below the Scout Hut Sk\u00e1talundur. The toilet block is a joint project between the St. George's Guild of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and the Municipality of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, and is open to everyone from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Hvaleyrarvatn and its surrounding area is an ideal spot for outdoor recreation, exercise and socialising, with a footpath running around the lake and many other walking trails nearby. The development is therefore a valuable addition to the area. <\/p>\n

The one true Scout spirit <\/h4>\n

The initiative for the project came from the St. George Group in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, an active and strong association of older scouts, and many volunteers and companies in the area have supported the project with invaluable work and materials. Construction began just over a year ago. One of the aims of the old scouts is to support the scouting movement in one way or another. The new toilet block is an excellent and illustrative example of a project and undertaking that directly benefits the work, whilst also serving the entire community. The project is in direct line with the ideals of the scouting movement, to bring the true spirit of Scouting into the local community and to the people who make up that community.<\/p>\n

The Scout Hut Sk\u00e1talundur <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sk\u00e1talundur is a Scout Centre for the Order of the Scout in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and an outdoor paradise, dedicated on 25 June 1968. The centre is not for overnight stays but is well-furnished and heated mainly by a wood-burning stove. It is suitable for meetings and events and is available for hire to suitable parties. The scout hut has grounds where scouts can go camping, with fire pits and a woodland clearing, making it ideal for patrol and troop camps. The scout hut is a hub of activity, and its grounds and vegetation have been steadily developed, in part since the scouts arrived and with the help of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Forestry Association.<\/p>\n
