Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Mosfellsb\u00e6r and Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r have joined forces to work on a development project with the Faculty of Education, University of Iceland, on the assessment of internal work in nurseries.<\/p>\n

Emphasis is placed on strengthening the internal evaluation of nurseries and increasing knowledge in the field of internal evaluation.   <\/h4>\n

Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Mosfellsb\u00e6r and Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r have joined forces to work on a development project with the Faculty of Education, University of Iceland, on the evaluation of internal operations in nurseries. The development project is in line with the recommendations of the working group on strengthening the preschool level, which were published in August 2021. It places an emphasis on strengthening the internal evaluation of preschools and increasing knowledge in the field of internal evaluation. The development project will conclude in May 2022. The project manager is Dr Anna Magnea Hreinsd\u00f3ttir.<\/p>\n

Defining quality and standards is an important factor. <\/h4>\n

In defining quality in nursery education, we need to consider what we want for our children and how we define a good life. Defining quality and quality standards is an important part of a joint development project by nurseries in Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r, Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and Mosfellsb\u00e6r on internal evaluation of their work, which began today with a remote meeting of the nurseries' managers. The evaluation of nursery work is intended to provide a professional foundation for the work, support school development and demonstrate with data how quality standards are met.<\/p>\n

Based on ideas about a learning community <\/h4>\n

The project is based on the concept of a learning community of peers, creating a platform for nursery managers to discuss the implementation of evaluations, the creation of improvement plans, and their subsequent monitoring. The nursery managers have been working on developing an internal evaluation system that is useful to share with other managers, exchange views and reflect on how internal evaluation is conducted in the nurseries. It is anticipated that the managers will meet monthly, and between meetings they will work on projects with their colleagues, all of which are aimed at developing a systematic internal evaluation system for each nursery school. Tasks will be defined to guide the project, focusing on specific, defined aspects of internal evaluation, with the aim of integrating the evaluation into the nursery's other activities.<\/p>\n

A database of assessment methods that are well-suited to nursery education.   <\/h4>\n

The plan is to create a database of assessment methods that are well-suited to nursery practice and democratic participation by staff, children and parents, with a particular emphasis on methods appropriate for children of nursery age. It is anticipated that the internal evaluation of nursery practice will contribute to increased knowledge and school development within the nursery education sector.
