\nhas become the centre for elderly care services in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A new day care unit with specialised facilities for people with dementia was
\nopened at S\u00f3lvang in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur this summer. The emphasis has been placed on that in recent times.
\nmonths and years to build a strong and good elderly care service at S\u00f3lvang and pay
\nsenior citizens' access to preventative services and support in one and
\nthe same place. A new day care unit is today welcoming twelve individuals, but to

\nservice users and staff recently, but gathering restrictions and public health measures
\nhave stood in the way of the department's formal opening. The hospitality of the service users was great, and homemade decorations and cakes welcomed guests to the community hall.<\/p>\n

The hospitality of the service users was great, and homemade decorations and cakes welcomed guests in the community hall.<\/sup><\/p>\n

The aim is to maintain self-sufficiency for as long as possible.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The aim of the new day training department is to make
\nenable individuals with dementia to live at home for as long as possible and maintain
\nself-sufficiency to the greatest extent possible. On offer are, among other things
\nleisure activities, health promotion, meals and rest facilities. The facility is on the first floor.
\na floor in the older building of S\u00f3lvangur, but the premises were recently beautifully renovated by
\nthe municipality. The day care department is run by S\u00f3lt\u00fan Elderly Care Services Ltd in
\nin partnership with the local authority, and the Alzheimer's Society is the professional backer
\nthe activity. On the first floor, there is also the operation of general day care spaces for
\nelderly people.<\/p>\n

Innovation in elderly care services<\/a> <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Construction and refurbishment are underway on the upper floors of the old
\nS\u00f3lvang, based on an agreement between the Ministry of Health and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.
\nA new type of specialised service for the elderly is to be established there.
\nThe building provides spaces for short-term and respite care for 39
\nindividuals, or in total around 250 people a year, where light refreshments will be provided.
\nRehabilitation and an assessment of the individual's further support needs. The underlying aim is to enhance people's capacity.
\nto live at home for longer. The service is intended to ease the pressure on the National University Hospital,
\nto increase support for carers and last but not least, to improve their quality of life
\nolder people who use the service and enabling them to live for longer
\nat home otherwise. The opening of 11 new nursing rooms on the 2nd floor is also planned.
