The measures will come into effect at midnight. General crowd restrictions will be 50 people, but with the use of rapid tests, it will be permitted to hold events with a maximum of 500 people in a quarantine bubble. The opening hours for restaurants will be shortened by one hour. The maximum number of guests at swimming pools, gyms and ski resorts will be 75% of the licensed maximum capacity. The regulations for these measures will be in force until 8 December.

See the announcement on the website of the Cabinet Office.

A significant increase in domestic infections with growing pressure on the healthcare system, contact tracing and quarantine accommodation is the main reason for the tightened restrictions. Due to the situation, there has been a significant disruption to various services at Landspítali and there is a shortage of staff. There is growing pressure on the University Hospital of Akureyri, and the same applies to many other healthcare institutions, according to a memorandum from the Director of Public Health to the minister. The contact tracing team's operations are also disrupted, quarantine facilities are filling up, and the burden on the on-call doctor service and general practice has increased due to the outbreak. The Director of Public Health says strict public health measures are necessary while work is underway to achieve widespread immunity in the community through booster jabs, which have already begun. It is expected that around 160,000 people across the country will be invited for a booster jab before the end of the year.

Restrictions coming into force at midnight on the night of 13 November:

General gathering limit: 50 people Children born in 2016 and later are not included.
