Applications for a grant from the J\u00f3n \u00de\u00f3rarinsson Education Fund are now open. Anyone who has passed the final examination from Flensburg School and is undertaking further studies may apply for a grant. Applications must be submitted electronically to the email address erla@flensborg.is<\/a>, no later than midnight on Friday, 3 December 2021. The application should be marked 'J\u00f3n \u00de\u00f3rarinsson Education Fund'. The application must be accompanied by certified documents regarding your academic career since completing your studies at Flensborgarsk\u00f3linn, as well as any other information applicants believe supports their application.<\/p>\n

About the J\u00f3n \u00de\u00f3rarinsson Educational Fund at Flensburg School  <\/h4>\n

The J\u00f3n \u00de\u00f3rarinsson Educational Fund<\/a> The scholarship fund was established by the will of Anna J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir, a photographer from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, who died on 4 July 1987. It is intended to support students who have completed the student's examination or another final examination from Flensborg School in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in their further studies. The Educational Fund was established by the will of Anna J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir, a photographer in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, who died on 4 July 1987. Anna was the daughter of J\u00f3n \u00deorarinsson, headmaster of Flensborgarsk\u00f3linn, and his first wife, Laura P\u00e9tursd\u00f3ttir Hafstein. J\u00f3n was the headmaster of Flensborgarsk\u00f3linn from its inception as a grammar school in 1882 until 1908, when he took up the newly established post of Director of Education, which he held until his death on 12 June 1926. Anna J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir was born on 16 December 1892. She trained as a photographer and worked in her profession for many years in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. She was always very devoted to Flensborg School and followed its activities with keen interest. She was unmarried and childless and had decided long before her death that the school and its students should benefit from what she might leave behind. Her will stipulated that her estate should form a fund, to be named after J\u00f3n \u00de\u00f3rarinsson, and be used \u201eto support promising students who have completed their final examinations at Flensborg School in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur for further studies\u201c.<\/p>\n

The first distribution from the fund took place on Anna's hundredth birthday, 16 December 1992, but since then the distribution has taken place at the graduation ceremony before Christmas. The School Board of Flensburg School is also the board of the Education Fund. Applications will be considered and processed at the board's meeting in early December. The board may divide the grant if necessary.<\/p>\n
