COVID-19: Public health measures to remain unchanged for the next two weeks<\/h4>\n

Willum \u00de\u00f3r \u00de\u00f3rsson, the Minister of Health, has decided to extend the current regulations on gathering restrictions without change. General crowd restrictions will therefore remain at 50 people, but with the option of rapid-test events; the 1-metre social distancing rule will continue to apply, along with rules on the use of face coverings, etc. This decision is in line with the recommendations of the Director of Public Health, who considers it necessary to maintain the existing restrictions in light of uncertainty about the development of the pandemic, not least due to the emergence of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The Health Minister says they agree with the Chief Medical Officer that it is not the right time to relax the public health measures in light of this uncertainty. The development of the pandemic is being closely monitored both at home and abroad, and further information is awaited on the characteristics of the Omicron variant and the threat it poses. \u201eWe are very hopeful that restrictions can be eased sooner if the data on Omicron indicates that it is safe to do so. Until then, we need to protect the health service and ensure people receive the essential healthcare they need. We see that our neighbouring countries, not least Denmark and Norway, are struggling as infections are now increasing rapidly. Here, however, the epidemic is on a clear downward trend, which indicates that the tightening of public health measures that came into effect on 13 November has been successful.\u201d <\/em>says the minister.<\/p>\n
