The first real
\nThe winter's snow days came this week, and the staff of the service centre have been busy.
\nand contractors on behalf of the town have been on snow watch from midnight until the evening.
\nin recent days. Despite the clearance work having begun at midnight, including on the night before Tuesday, the faults had
\nequipment and the pandemic have a major impact on the course of events. All available staff and contractors
\nwas called out last night but Covid-related illnesses and subsequent equipment failures caused setbacks.
\nhad a knock-on effect on individual neighbourhoods and on the speed of the service. <\/p>\n

The night
\nbegan with the sweeping of high-priority routes by up to fifteen machines<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Snowploughing
\nis carried out in accordance with plans and according to pre-defined methods and
\napproved procedures. A contract is in place with 7 contractors for 11 additional pieces of equipment.
\nThe council's six snowploughs, but contractors are called in when
\nSnow is hampering travel. Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is divided into seven districts and each contractor is responsible for
\ntheir own neighbourhood, in addition to having extra machines in their possession.
\nContractors are used by the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur to assist in those neighbourhoods where the most
\nis prioritised on priority routes, depending on the weather and how things progress. The plan is to
\nKeep priority routes 1 passable before moving on to priority 2. Priority 3,
\nResidential streets will not be attended to until priority routes 1 and 2 are passable. Every effort is made to use the equipment to clear the main roads as quickly as possible. It is therefore often unavoidable that snow may block residents' driveways.\u00a0 On car parks, contractors and service centre staff clear snow from nursery and school playgrounds, institutional grounds and town centre car parks, as well as clearing snow from pavements and bus shelters. When contractors within the wards have finished the priority routes in their area, they assist with clearing car parks. Clearing the car parks can take time, particularly if the spaces are full. <\/p>\n

\"Zero<\/p>\n

The same applies to
\nPrioritisation of walking routes. The emphasis is on ensuring that routes in priority 1
\nand 2 are passable all day and the centre is on the main walking routes, the connection between
\nneighbourhoods and routes to and from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, along with walking routes to schools and
\nof the town's institutions. After that, the neighbourhoods are covered in detail. <\/p>\n
