At the beginning of 2021, the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and Icelandair signed a letter of intent regarding the future development of Icelandair's headquarters at Flugvellir 1 in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. For several years, the company has had part of its operations at Flugvellir and part at Reykjav\u00edk Airport. Following the signing of the 2021 memorandum of understanding, Icelandair undertook extensive analysis, concept development and design work, which is now nearing completion. If all goes to plan, construction on the new premises is expected to begin this year.<\/p>\n

Icelandair's facilities in the capital area to merge in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Mayor R\u00f3sa Gu\u00f0bjartsd\u00f3ttir and Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason recently met to review the situation. Work on the drawings for Icelandair's future premises at Flugvallarvegur 1 is in its final stages. It is clear that Icelandair's premises in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur will be most impressive. An extension to the existing building will create an attractive and sustainable facility for both staff and visitors. The construction and staff relocation are scheduled for completion in 2024. With this move, all of Icelandair's operations in the capital region have been consolidated.<\/p>\n

A competitive environment and good conditions for businesses in diverse operations. <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Icelandair is among the companies that have decided to move their operations, in part or in whole, to Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. The town council approved a plot allocation for six plots in the neighbourhood at its meeting on 4 May.<\/a> There are currently no plots available for allocation in the neighbourhood, but it is expected that just over 50 plots in the second phase of development for Hellnahraun 3 will become available for allocation in the coming days. Approved site allocations apply to these plots. The strategy of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur's municipal authorities to offer a highly competitive environment and good conditions for businesses in diverse operations appears to be paying off. The operations of Icelandair and the building as a whole will be another boost for the rapidly expanding residential and commercial district in a beautiful and accessible location in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. <\/p>\n
