Highways Agency's proposals for solutions on the Reykjanesbraut in a busy traffic area <\/h4>\n<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Representatives of the Road Administration attended the meeting of the Planning and Building Committee.<\/a> on 26th April (item 1 on the meeting's agenda) and put forward initial ideas regarding
\nchanges to the Reykjanesbraut from L\u00e6kjargata to Kaplakriki. Improved traffic flow and
\nTraffic safety on the section from L\u00e6kjargata to \u00c1lftanesvegur is the responsibility of
\nThe Capital Region Transport Agreement and the adopted agreements decided that
\nallocate 13.1 million to the project for the years 2025-2028. It was originally intended to
\nthe amount would be just over 5 million, but the local authorities in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur managed to push through
\nSignificant changes to the amount. <\/p>\n

The Road Administration is considering solutions with
\nReykjanesbraut in its current configuration (2 variants) and a tunnel underneath.

  1. Reykjanesbraut
    \n in its present form.
    \n<\/strong> Reykjanesbraut was dug down from \u00c1lftanesvegur and south of L\u00e6kjargata.
    \n Reykjanesbraut goes under the junctions with \u00c1lftanesveg, Fjar\u00f0arhraun and
    \n L\u00e6kjargata. Cost approx. 9.1 million kr\u00f3na.<\/li>\n
  2. Reykjanesbraut in its current layout. <\/strong>Reykjanesbraut in
    \n current elevation profile. Connections to Fjar\u00f0arhraun and L\u00e6kjargata below
    \n Reykjanesbraut. Cost around 5.5\u20135.9 million kr\u00f3na.<\/li>\n
  3. Tunnels. <\/strong>Tunnels from the Reykjanesbraut at Sta\u00f0arberg to IKEA. To
    \n Otherwise, the Reykjanesbrautin would remain largely unchanged. Cost: approximately 17.4 million kr\u00f3na.<\/li>\n
  4. Tunnels
    \n with connecting tunnels. <\/strong> Tunnels
    \n from the Reykjanesbraut at Sta\u00f0arberg to IKEA, including a connecting link to \u00c1lftanesveg.

    All four implementations are profitable projects and are
    \nIt is expected that both structures will open in 2034. The surface solution will take two years.
    \nUnderway, but the tunnels will take 3 years. Various things need to be looked into before work on the preliminary designs can begin.
