The Building Regulations, section 7.2.2, states the following regarding trees and shrubs: <em>\u201eThe occupier of a plot is obliged to keep the growth of trees and shrubs on the plot within the plot boundaries. If the landowner fails to do so, and where the growth of trees or shrubs extends beyond the boundary onto streets, pavements or open spaces, the highway authority or the manager of the area is authorised to remove the part that causes a nuisance or is unsightly, at the landowner's expense, following prior notice.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Garden waste \u2013 free collection at Sorpu&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<p xml_lang=\"EN-US\" paraid=\"1856830750\" paraeid=\"{df2f544d-9f7c-4a77-aa7a-f79c2ddb7a0c}{212}\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/sorpa.is\/einstaklingar\/gardaurgangur\">Sorpa accepts garden waste free of charge. <\/a>from individuals at their recycling centres,  <a href=\"https:\/\/sorpa.is\/mottokustadir\">in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur to Brei\u00f0hellu<\/a>. According to the definition of Sorpu, the following fall under the category of garden waste: weeds, grass, flower trimmings, vegetables, leaves, plant remains and potted plants. It is also accepted free of charge.  <a href=\"https:\/\/sorpa.is\/einstaklingar\/trjagreinar\">tree trunks and tree branches<\/a>,  <a href=\"https:\/\/sorpa.is\/einstaklingar\/gras-og-hey\">grass and hay<\/a>  However, special containers are provided for these categories. Please note that the above-mentioned materials may be placed in the categories without any contaminants or other materials, such as plastic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Fencing and screen walls<\/h3>\n<p xml_lang=\"EN-US\" paraid=\"1856830750\" paraeid=\"{df2f544d-9f7c-4a77-aa7a-f79c2ddb7a0c}{212}\">Certain rules apply to such works, which are worth familiarising yourself with before you begin. You must consider the property boundaries, whether it is the boundary with your neighbour's plot or with the local authority land. It is permitted to erect a shelter wall and fences up to a height of 1.8m, provided they are set back from the boundary line by at least 1.8m.  <a href=\"https:\/\/ibuagatt.hafnarfjordur.is\/OnePortal\/NewApplication.aspx?id=156364109119636291577\">Permission must be sought from the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur building control officer if a railing comes closer to the plot boundary than its height is.<\/a>.  Consent from neighbours or adjacent landowners for fencing on or near the boundary of the plot must also be submitted to the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Building Control Officer.
