Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Museum of Local History<\/a> is having two new exhibitions this summer.
\nThere is, on the one hand, an exhibition in the forecourt of the Packhouse of national artefacts from the collection.
\nThorbjorgar Bergmann and then there is a photography exhibition at Strandst\u00edgurinn. Then there are
\nPermanent exhibitions in several buildings in the town.<\/p>\n

Every spring, sets Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Museum of Local History<\/a> up new
\nA themed exhibition in the foyer of the Packhouse, and this summer's exhibition is about Thorbj\u00f8rg.
\nBergmann. \u201eShe was the first collector from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.\u201c<\/em> says Bj\u00f6rn P\u00e9tursson
\nTown Curator of Antiquities. \u201eShe lived in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur from 1900 to 1930 and for the entire time
\nshe collected national artefacts both in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and outside Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and laid
\na lot came of it. With this exhibition, we are both telling her story and
\nshow some of the items she collected. The exhibition is produced in close collaboration
\nwith the City History Museum and one of Thorbjorg's descendants who lent us both a great deal of
\nobjects and images, and many of these items are incredibly beautiful and remarkable.
\nThorbjorg was a great needlewoman and her interest in Icelandic is evident in the exhibition.
\ncraftsmanship. She herself was a multi-award-winning needlewoman and \u00deorbj\u00f6rg,
\nwith Katr\u00edn Briem, for various handicraft courses for girls in
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"BuildIn one of the bays at the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Folk Museum, it is shown how
\nSoldiers lived in Iceland during the occupation years. It's interesting and fun to look at.<\/sup><\/p>\n

\u00deorbj\u00f6rg realised during these years that Icelandic society
\nwas changing \u2013 it was this urbanisation and the farming community was giving way
\nShe saw that things were being lost as a result of this change, and she left.
\nto this collection of theirs to preserve Icelandic culture; to save
\nrescued from oblivion and collected over 400 artefacts.<\/em><\/p>\n

Thorbjorg moved to Reykjavik in 1930 to her daughter.
\nand her son-in-law, and after her death, they gave her collection, these 400 items, to the Reykjav\u00edk Society.
\nand this was the largest gift to \u00c1rb\u00e6jarsafn when it was opened.
\nThe City History Museum lent us some of these items to have on display.
\nfor the exhibition, and we also borrowed items from Thorbjorg's descendants.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

Photographic exhibition on the Strand<\/h4>\n

The Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Museum of Local History has exhibition space for
\nits photography collection on Strandst\u00edgur along the harbour in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, and are there
\nAnnual photography exhibitions are held, highlighting daily life and history.
\nthe people who lived in the town. \u201eThis year there are 52 pictures and the exhibition is called My Town.
\nThese are photographs that Anna J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir took from 1920-1940 and are
\nLifestyle photos from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. These are incredibly fun and beautiful.
\nPhotographs providing an insight into the town's development from this period.<\/em><\/p>\n

Anna was a photographer in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and was closely connected to the town.
\nShe ran a photography studio there for a long time, and her photography collection, or film collection,
\npreserved at the folk museum and has been there for decades. This is largely
\na film collection on glass plates and some of these films that we are showing now have
\nnot previously published to our knowledge; at any rate not in recent years. Part of
\nThese pictures were featured in a book published in 1933, so this
\nThere are pictures that have been forgotten, but others are well-known and have been in exhibitions.

\"Build<\/p>\n

\nThe collector. The exhibition was opened at the Folk Museum on 1 June and is still on display.<\/sup><\/p>\n

The History of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/h4>\n

The Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Folk Museum has more exhibitions, regardless of
\nsummer shows. \u201eWe have exhibitions all over town. At the Packhouse there is
\nA large exhibition about the history of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, spread over two floors. It is called 'Thus It Was and Is'.
\nThe history of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur from the settlement era to the present day. Here we trace the history
\nof the town through certain themes and we shed light on the town and village both with
\nhistorical texts, photographs and then a large collection of artefacts. We put this
\ndown into a pit and, for example, in one place from the shopping town, in another place
\nfrom the fishing villages and the third since the occupation. This exhibition is updated on
\nevery year, so there's always something new to see on it. Now in the spring
\nFor example, we set up a small shop stall; an old co-op. That's the novelty on
\nthat show this year.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

A toy exhibition is on the top floor of the Packhouse. \u201eThere we are
\nWe have all sorts of toys and other things for children. It's absolutely
\na non-verbal show specially designed for children; this is more
\nan immersive exhibition. For example, there are old video games that you can play.,
\namong others, Space Invaders and Super Mario Bros.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

Different homes<\/h4>\n

The S\u00edvertsens House is the oldest house in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and it was built in 1680.
\nBuilt by the contractor Bjarni S\u00edvertsen between 1803 and 1805. \u201eHe has been
\ncalled the \u201efather of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur\u201c. He was the first Icelandic merchant after
\nWe broke away from the monopoly and he built the Sivertsen House for the family.
\nhis and a shop next door. Bjarni's story is in many ways very remarkable and
\nIt is somewhat reflected in the house. We show how an upper-class family
\nlived at this time and we trace the story of Bjarni and his wife, Rannveig.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

Siggub\u00e6r, which stands on Kirkjuveg, is an example of a home.
\nof a worker and a sailor in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur from the first half of the 20th century where visitors
\ncan experience and learn about how the town's ordinary people lived at that time, but that
\nErlendur Marteinsson was the sailor who had the house built. \u201eSiggub\u00e6r is typical of these houses that were in
\nHafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur at this time \u2013 these working-class homes; the definition of a 'b\u00e6' versus a 'h\u00fas'.
\nis that it has low walls and the windows are only on the gables.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Build<\/p>\n

The Merchant of the Corner was a summer show last year and was part of
\nhers was added to the permanent exhibition last May.<\/sup><\/p>\n

Foreign fishing<\/h4>\n

The Bookless Bungalow, located at 32 West Street, was
\nbuilt in 1920 for the Scot Douglas Bookless but he and his brother, Harry,
\nIn the first half of the 20th century, they had run an extensive fishing operation from Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. \u201eAt that time, foreign fishing was very strong and extensive in
\nIn Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, and in the house, we tell both the story of the Bookless brothers and also this one.
\nthe large foreign fishing fleet that was in the town. We are telling the story of the foreign fishing fleet.
\nin the first decades of the 20th century. The brothers had all sorts of innovations which

\npresented to the nation, and particularly that which concerned fisheries, shipping and

Retail Heritage Exhibition<\/h4>\n

The Trading Post Museum of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Folk Museum is in Beggub\u00fa\u00f0.
\n\u201eThis is an old warehouse that previously stood on Strandgata and was moved to the site.
\nof the folk museum and an exhibition was opened there in 2008. This is an original building with
\nwith original fittings, and we have set up an old-fashioned shop there, just like they used to be.
\nwere on the last century. This is a house that many remember on Strandgatan and
\nMany have a connection and feelings for it. There, we have also taken pride in
\nset up special window displays for various occasions. We set up to
\nfor example, a special window display for 17th June and another for Christmas. Although
\nWhen the museum is closed, we have these big windows with something fun.
