Increased opportunities for disabled people in the mainstream labour market<\/h4>\n

The project The wasps<\/strong> This involves increased opportunities for disabled people with high support needs to participate in the mainstream labour market. The emphasis is on individuals having the opportunity to try the mainstream labour market with the support of assistants.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2254\"\n

A pilot project that developed into a part of the town's service\u00a0<\/h4>\n

The Wasps was an initial pilot project launched by the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in the autumn of 2015. The pilot project was a one-year collaboration between the Vinnum\u00e1lastofnun and the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, focusing on innovation and job training for people with disabilities. The project is now run by the City of Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and has become an important part of the services the city provides.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2252\"\n

From training to employment with support\u00a0<\/h4>\n

The Wasps is a flexible scheme which aims to provide a diverse range of options and offers work experience\/work trials in the mainstream job market alongside neurodivergent people. This works to build a bridge, for those who wish, from habilitation to supported employment in the mainstream labour market. Creative projects are also undertaken on the premises of Geitungarnir, and there is a targeted focus on empowering each individual through education, work and\/or activity. Among the projects available indoors are various crafts such as woodworking, painting, sewing and pottery.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2246\"\"IMG_2292\"\n\"IMG_2268\"\n

The country's coolest dive bar<\/h4>\n

In the House, you can find a rather unique bar, a so-called scrap bar, which is full of all sorts of offcuts from here and there that users utilise to create new items and beautiful objects, offering them for sale in the Wasp Nest, the Wasps' shop.\u00a0 All the materials the Wasps receive and use for their creations are upcycled, and they work with materials that would otherwise most likely end up in the rubbish. Recently, the group received a large quantity of wood from a shop that was closing down, and they used it to make elegant scarecrows, which will later hold a sign to welcome people.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2285\"\n\"IMG_2289\"\n

Geitungab\u00fai\u00f0 is a concept and a shop by Geitungarnir\u00a0<\/h4>\n

The wasps run the shop The Wasp Nest<\/strong>, at its premises at 14 South Street, The House Shop<\/strong>, and sell there products they have produced under the guidance of a brilliant and creative teacher, with material reuse, among other things, as a guiding principle in their production.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2337\"\"IMG_2335\"\"IMG_2322\"\"IMG_2314\"\n

The shop is generally open from 8 am to 5 pm every weekday.<\/strong>, where all sorts of handmade products are for sale at great prices, from Christmas tree stands to beautiful candles. The shop is entered from the inside, on the ground floor of the building facing the harbour (next to the Sports Hall on Strandgata). It is advisable to let them know before visiting the shop, and please bear in mind that only cash is accepted. The Wasps have also been holding open days, giving people the opportunity to see and learn about their activities, facilities and shop.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2324\"\n

The wasps play a big part in the Hall\u00f3 Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur charity basket project and its delivery. They handle the packing of the gifts in\u00a0The cute baskets for newborn Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur residents<\/a>\u00a0and ensure there are enough gifts at the children's section of the Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur Library, where the gifts are handed out.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\"IMG_2261\"\"IMG_2260\"\n

A varied and pre-planned programme every weekday.\u00a0<\/h4>\n

Alongside the opportunity to try your hand at various creative projects, there is a pre-planned and varied programme, which includes, amongst other things, sightseeing tours, educational sessions and entertainment about the city and its surroundings.<\/p>\n\"IMG_2266\"\n

Emphasis is also placed on users being able to use the facilities in the House to relax, where they can find, for example, a television room and a special relaxation and sensory room with calming music and lighting. People often play games, sing and dance, all depending on the mood and the day's events.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\"IMG_2301\"\n
