Its aim is to provide education on plastic consumption and waste, to spread knowledge about the harmful effects of plastic, and to encourage people to make a positive change, both as individuals and for society as a whole. The campaign has grown significantly since its first year, and more and more people are realising the harmful effects of single-use plastic on the environment. A huge amount of single-use plastic is landfilled or ends up in the ocean, which is a major cause for concern. All plastic that has ever been produced still exists and does not decompose; that is, the plastic that has not ended up in landfill. The plastic breaks down into smaller particles (microplastics), and its effects on wildlife are not fully understood.<\/p>\n<p><em>Plastic-Free September encourages us to use less single-use plastic and to choose products made from other materials where possible. The challenge isn't about being completely plastic-free for the whole month, but about setting a personal goal to reduce your use of single-use plastic packaging.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>We encourage people to take an active part in Plastic-Free September.<br \/><\/strong>On the web <a href=\"https:\/\/plastlausseptember.is\/\">www.plastlausseptember.is<\/a> is to find advice on reducing plastic use in daily life.
