The School of Medicine is seeking to appoint a dynamic and energetic Assistant Director for a 100% post in the school's extracurricular activities.
The aim of the leisure centre is to give children and young people the opportunity to take part in creative and developmental social activities in a healthy environment on an equal basis.
The Assistant Head of Department participates in managing the daily operations of the youth club and after-school club, and ensures that educational and professional working practices are the standard in all the department's work.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Overseeing and being responsible for the activities of the leisure centre, alongside the department manager, with a focus on Years 1-4.
- Engages in preventative and educational work on various issues related to children and young people.
- Planning and implementation of projects and events
- Ensures that the flow of information to children, parents and partners is effective.
- Manages the division of work among staff and provides guidance on the execution of activities.
- Fosters good collaboration with various partners, such as parents, schools, social services, other youth centres and after-school clubs, and other institutions and organisations that work with children and young people.
- Working with students with specific difficulties
- Other tasks assigned to an employee by a superior and in accordance with their job description.
Educational and competency requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Leisure and Social Studies, a degree in Education and Educational Sciences, or another relevant degree.
- Experience and interest in working with children and young people
- Interest in children's issues and prevention.
- Knowledge is gained through group work.
- Experience of interdisciplinary collaboration
- It is desirable that the candidate has worked in a day-care centre or a youth club.
- Ability to organise, initiative and independence in work methods
- General computer skills
- A good command of Icelandic and English is a requirement.
- Communication and collaboration skills
