Hraunvallar Nursery School is looking to hire a full-time teacher.
Hraunvallar leikskóli is a four-unit nursery school located in Völlunum, Hafnarfjörður. The nursery works according to the philosophy of John Dewey and its work is characterised by multiculturalism, where, for example, respect is shown for the individual, their culture and background, and everyone has the same opportunity to learn. There is a very good partnership with Hraunvallaskóli, as the nursery is housed in the same building as the primary school.
The nursery's values are friendship, cooperation and responsibility, which are reflected in all its work.
The school uses SMT (School-wide Management Techniques), where desirable behaviour is highlighted through targeted praise and rewards. Clear instructions are the guiding principle, and good communication is actively cultivated.
We are looking for enthusiastic and responsible individuals who are passionate about the role.
Kindergartens in Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, which involve a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Playgroup Teachers and the Association of Occupational Therapists have voted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These employees therefore take their reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter holidays in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and through extended time off in the summer.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Working with the upbringing and education of nursery school children
- Taking part in the planning of professional work
- Participating in parent collaboration in consultation with the Head of Year
- Other duties as described in the job description
Educational and competency requirements:
- Teaching licence (attached)
- Experience in childcare or teaching young children is desirable.
- Good communication skills
- Initiative in work and professional ambition
- Independent and organised working methods
- Good knowledge of Icelandic, C1 language standard ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)

If a qualified teacher cannot be found, consideration will be given to appointing a university graduate or an individual with experience of working with children, in accordance with Act No. 95/2019. We encourage interested applicants to apply, even if they do not hold a teaching qualification.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Union.
