The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður runs leisure centres and youth clubs in all its primary schools, and these two units are collectively known as leisure centres. A strong emphasis is placed on professional and effective leisure activities for all age groups. Discount on leisure fees

Staff at Hafnarfjörður's after-school clubs receive a 75% discount on their child's attendance fee. The discount applies to the activity fee and not to meals (morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack). Line managers accept applications for the discount.

Child-friendly working environment and child democracy

In professional leisure activities, the ideas of children and children's democracy are worked with purposefully. The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður aims to receive recognition from UNICEF in Iceland as a child-friendly municipality.

The leisure centres of Hafnarfjörður aim for their staff to reflect the diversity of the community, and are therefore seeking interest and applications from individuals with a variety of backgrounds, knowledge, experience and interests.

Priority at the after-school club

The after-school activities of the primary schools are a service that the City of Hafnarfjörður has for many years placed great emphasis on providing with dedication and professionalism, as the preventative value of the work is indisputable. Health-promoting workplace

Hafnarfjörður Municipality is a health-promoting workplace and places emphasis on the health and well-being of its staff through the targeted implementation of the 'Health-Promoting Workplace' project, run by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer.

Fitness grant

Hafnarfjörður provides its staff who have been employed for at least 3 months with a full grant of kr. 18,000 per year for physical and/or mental wellbeing. Staff with a 50-100% employment rate receive a full grant of kr. 18,000 per year.

Shortening of the working week

A full working week reduction (36 instead of 40 hours) has been introduced at all facilities of the City of Hafnarfjörður and naturally also applies to all staff of the city's leisure centres.
