Professional role model and opportunity

The aim of the Hafnarfjörður leisure centres is for the staff team to reflect the diversity of the community, and as such, we welcome interest and applications from individuals with different backgrounds, knowledge, experience and interests. The aim is simple – for the diverse group of children to be able to find role models and companions among the staff. The idea is for staff to be able to use their own hobbies, for example, in a new club for the children and young people, and thus have the opportunity to share their passion for, e.g.e.g. outdoor activities, drama, football, dance, cooking, music, creative writing or board games. The list is endless and depends on each individual member of staff. Variety in the work is very important, and for this reason, each member of staff is encouraged to contribute ideas and be unafraid to follow the children's ideas, creating fun activities, events and a programme that brings joy and fosters an interest in a wide range of areas.

We are a child-friendly municipality

A child-friendly municipality is an initiative that supports the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in all governance and activities of the municipality. The implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child within the municipality is part of Hafnarfjörður's comprehensive strategy, which is in force until 2035.  The core elements focus on knowledge of children's rights, the best interests of the child, the consideration of children's rights, respect for their views, and ensuring all approaches are child-friendly. All children and young people have the right to leisure, and the city's leisure centres focus on enhancing opportunities for children and young people in a safe and rewarding environment. There is a strong emphasis on and development of democracy within the work, and a targeted effort is made to actively involve children and young people in shaping their own leisure activities, thereby listening to their voices.
