The Department of Environment and Planning is looking to hire a Master Carpenter for the City of Hafnarfjörður Service Centre. The Service Centre is responsible for the maintenance of the town's land and for various services and projects for the town, its institutions and residents. The Environment and Planning Department has around 50 full-time equivalent positions. This is a 100% position.  

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • General operation of a joinery workshop, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and that safety is prioritised.
  • Management, monitoring, maintenance and repair of timberwork in open areas such as fences, benches, footbridges, steps, platforms, play equipment, etc.
  • Various new builds on open spaces, on open playgrounds, on institutional grounds and at the town's properties and institutions.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Housing Office premises in cooperation with its staff.
  • Various consultations regarding maintenance and new construction, both on rural land and during projects at institutions.
  • Conducts inspections and surveys of the town's properties with regard to maintenance and works, e.g. in relation to leaks and damp in buildings.
  • Conducts price surveys and seeks quotations for materials from suppliers for various council projects.

Educational and competency requirements: 

  • Master's degree in carpentry
  • General and good experience in carpentry or experience relevant to the job.
  • Good, general computer skills 
  • Collaboration and communication skills
  • Service-mindedness and positivity
  • Initiative, independence and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of Icelandic is a requirement. 

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the relevant trade union.
