Víðistaðaskóli is seeking a teacher for Veröld, a new school programme for children who are applicants for international protection. Veröld is based on good work that has been developed in recent years as a teaching and support programme for children with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. 

We are looking for experienced, organised and enthusiastic professionals who are ready to embark on the journey of building and creating a professional and positive school environment for pupils with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Vídistaðaskóli has just over 500 pupils in Years 1-10. The school's staff number just over 100, and there is a good working atmosphere with strong team spirit. We operate according to the guiding principles of responsibility, respect and friendship. We place an emphasis on student well-being, diverse teaching methods, student democracy, and ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to be themselves.

These are 80-100% positions. Appointment to the positions is by arrangement.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Organise teaching and prepare individualised learning plans, in consultation with the relevant teachers. 
  • Develop the school curriculum for their own teaching
  • To teach and perform related duties, such as preparing lesson plans, assessing learning and providing information to students and their families.
  • Participates in professional collaboration and teamwork
  • Other duties as described in the job description

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teaching licence (copy of licence to be attached to the application)
  • Experience of teaching students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of a trauma-informed approach in school work is an advantage.
  • Experience and interest in working with children and young people
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Good knowledge of Icelandic

A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Association.
