Vesturkot Nursery School is looking to hire a full-time occupational therapist from 25 February 2026. or by arrangement.

Vesturkot Nursery School has four classes, located on Holtinu. where the unspoilt wilderness is close by. The nursery's policy is based on the learning community model, where the emphasis is on everyone being an active participant in shaping and developing the school's work. We therefore place great emphasis on teamwork. The nursery's motto is play, cooperation and respect. We work according to the SMT School Skills programme, which focuses on approaching children in a positive way, giving more attention to good behaviour, and creating positive and constructive interactions. We are a Health Promoting Workplace, a ChildSafe nursery with Childnet International, we work towards early intervention in children's speech and language development, and environmental education is part of our work. We believe that good collaboration, well-being and job satisfaction are essential for building a high-quality, professional nursery. Therefore, we place a strong emphasis on fostering such a working environment.

The nurseries of Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, based on a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Early Years Educators and the Association of Occupational Therapists have opted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These staff members therefore take reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter break in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and with longer periods off in the summer.
