Once a year, the mayor hosts a coffee party for staff who have reached 25 years of service. At the ceremony, the mayor thanked the staff for their hard work on behalf of the residents, colleagues and the Hafnarfjörður Town Council. Yesterday, thirteen employees were recognised, who have collectively worked for the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður for 325 years.
This is the third year in a row that the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður has recognised staff upon reaching 15 and 25 years of service. This is based on the continuous years an employee has worked for the municipality. On their 15-year service anniversary, the department or institution organises a coffee reception for the staff member in question, and as a token of appreciation, the employee receives a book, a handicraft or a work of art as a gift, in addition to flowers. Once a year, in the spring, the mayor organises a joint coffee party for those who have reached 25 years of service and presents them with certificates and a 50,000 króna gift voucher.
During the ceremony, the Icelandic Guitar Trio played a piece by Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir, who is one of those celebrating her 25th anniversary of service this year. The trio consists of three guitar teachers from the Hafnarfjörður Music School: Svanur Vilbergsson, Þröstur Þorbjörnsson and Þórarinn Sigurbergsson, who is also celebrating his 25th anniversary of service this year.
