Never before have so many people attended the Hjarta Hafnarfjarðar town festival at the Bæjarbíó. The festival ran for six weekends. The area has now returned to its usual appearance.

The heart of Hafnarfjörður has never been bigger

Nearly 65,000 visitors made their way to the Heart of Hafnarfjörður festival here in the heart of Hafnarfjörður's town centre over the six weekends it ran. Now, there is no sign of the festival and everything has returned to normal. The tents have been packed away and the car parks are back in use. Indeed, it's fair to say that the festival was a resounding success.

„It went really well. A really good turnout, the best July since records began. No serious accidents and the guests were exemplary,“ says Páll Eyjólfsson, operations manager of Bæjarbíó.

The weather gods played tricks on the guests.

„Two things were particularly responsible for how well it went: the fantastic staff who handled the preparation and the entire setup, and the weather gods. When those two things come together, everything just falls into place,“ says Palli.

Numerous performers took to the stage. Families, groups of friends and guests from near and far enjoyed the company and immersed themselves in the musical culture. The entire festival ran smoothly. The weather was kind to the guests.

Young and old had fun

„The guests were of all ages. We have a broad target audience. We can't target this festival in any way. It's just everyone,“ says Palli. „We also saw another group at the happy hour and then when the concerts started. We also created a programme that appeals to younger people; that didn't stop the older ones from coming.“

Palli says the main purpose is to show yourself and see others – to meet people. „Then the artists are the cherry on the cake.“

Yes, the festival was wonderful – life is wonderful.
