We are looking for a driven and dynamic home economics teacher to join us in our ambitious school programme.

At Skarðshlíðarskóli, we have enthusiastic and fun-loving pupils, a dedicated staff, and a strong parent body. We emphasise a good working atmosphere, team teaching, varied teaching methods, SMT school skills, and ensuring all pupils achieve good results in play and work. Mílan is an integral part of the school's work, which involves pupils and staff going outside daily to walk, jog or run for 15 minutes.
The implementation of UDL (Universal Design for Learning) began in the autumn of 2020. UDL provides students with the opportunity to learn in different ways and to demonstrate their skills in different ways. Students are active and have an influence on their own learning.
Skarðshlíðarskóli is a comprehensive primary school with pupils in Years 1 to 10. This winter, there are around 525 pupils at the school. The school building is impressive and the school is well-equipped, with a sports hall, a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School and a four-department nursery school in an adjoining building.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Responsible for home economics teaching in Years 1–10.
- Manage purchasing for teaching and oversee the home economics department.
- Participate in the development of a new school in collaboration with the management.
- Promote the welfare of students in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
- Working in accordance with the school's policy
- Working to create a good atmosphere in the school and ensuring the safety and well-being of pupils and staff.
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements:
- Teaching licence
- Professional expertise in home economics and health promotion
- Positivity and an interest in working with children and young people in a creative and ambitious environment.
- Agility in communication, flexibility and cooperativeness
- Initiative and autonomy in work methods
- Punctuality and conscientiousness
- Very good Icelandic skills, to a minimum of C1 in accordance with ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)
The Council is in office from 1 August 2026.
A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Union.
