Social Worker in Specialist Home Care – Temporary Position

The Family and Children's Services Department of Hafnarfjörður is seeking to recruit staff for cover in specialist support services.
This is a fixed-term appointment from spring until November 2026. It is desirable that the employee can start as soon as possible.
An employee assists service users with significant and complex service needs, working in accordance with the City of Hafnarfjörður's policy on homelessness and provides individualised services that are organised with the individual's needs in mind.A harm reduction philosophy and a recovery-oriented approach are adopted. Working hours are from midday into the evening, every day of the week, on a shift basis.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Encourages and supports users in self-help and social activity.
- Provides users with support for activities of daily living
- Follows the station's plans and procedures.
- Guides and assists users, e.g. with medical appointments and using other services.
- Strengthen users' self-identity, self-esteem and quality of life, and empower them to take control of their circumstances and lives, providing them with social support.
- Assists with household chores and encourages users.
- Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.
Educational and competency requirements:
- Social work qualification or other comparable qualification
- Experience of working with people with multiple needs
- Interest in harm reduction and recovery ideology
- Communication and collaboration skills
- Shows tact and flexibility but can set boundaries
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Initiative, organised working methods and independence in work
- Icelandic proficiency at a minimum of level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The individual must have a driving licence and access to a car.
A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

The terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hlíf Trade Union.
