The position of Headteacher of Víðistaðaskóli in Hafnarfjörður is now open for application. The appointment will be from 15th July this year, or by mutual agreement.

Vídistaðaskóli is a comprehensive primary school with around 520 pupils in Years 1–10. The school runs the after-school club Hraunkot for pupils in Years 1–4 and a youth club for older pupils.

We are seeking an ambitious leader with extensive knowledge of school operations, a passion for a diverse learning environment, and the ability to lead the school forward under its motto.; responsibility – respect – friendship.  The person will further develop a positive school atmosphere that promotes well-being, collaboration, diversity and creativity in accordance with the educational policy of Hafnarfjörður.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • To create and shape a caring and progressive school ethos within a comprehensive school.
  • To provide the school with professional leadership in accordance with the National Curriculum for Primary Schools and the educational policy of the City of Hafnarfjörður.
  • Manage daily operations and demonstrate prudence in management.
  • Manage human resources matters such as recruitment, work organisation and career development.
  • Develop a school ethos in effective partnership with staff, pupils and parents.
  • To cooperate with the local education authority on vision and strategy.
  • Promoting the success and well-being of students and staff

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teacher's licence
  • Relevant postgraduate education is an advantage, preferably in management and/or educational sciences.
  • Experience of teaching and successful management in a primary school is required.
  • Leadership skills and experience of professional leadership in the field of education
  • Experience in planning, operations and financial management
  • Experience in human resources
  • Organisational skills, initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • Good command of Icelandic (C1) – and proficiency in English, with the ability to express oneself both orally and in writing.
  • Good IT skills

Hafnarfjörður operates an early support procedure for nursery and primary school children, with a primary focus on integrated services for children and families at an early stage, increased collaboration in the child's local environment and implementation in accordance with the Act on the Coordination of Services for the Well-being of Children.

Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Icelandic Teachers' Association.
