Spring clean-up – garden waste bins at all primary schools

From 7th to 10th May 2026, a clean-up day will be held in Hafnarfjörður under the title CLEAN UP HAFNARFJÖRÐUR. During this time, residents of Hafnarfjörður can dispose of garden waste in a container within every neighbourhood, at each primary school.

Please note that Sorpa accepts garden waste free of charge. Please note – the containers are for garden waste only.

Let's take an active part – Let's use the service

Residents are encouraged to use recycled packaging or reusable bags when cleaning. Please note that garden waste must not be put into bags in the bin; instead, the contents of the bags should be emptied directly into it.. It is also advisable, where possible, to collect garden waste in a compost heap in a convenient place in the garden and use it for composting.

Residents in all neighbourhoods of Hafnarfjörður are encouraged to take an active part in the clean-up, and it is ideal to get to work in the garden, prune bushes and flowerbeds in the run-up to and during the clean-up days.

Let's clean, reuse, sort and pick!
