Competition for a school's name
It has been decided to hold a naming competition for a new school in Skarðshlíð. The primary school will begin operating in autumn 2017 in temporary premises before moving into its new school building. Proposals must be submitted by 7 April at the latest.
The Education Committee of Hafnarfjörður, at its 367th meeting on 8 March 2017, agreed to hold a naming competition for a new school in Skarðshlíð, off Völlunum in Hafnarfjörður.
The school in Skarðshlíð will be housed in a new school building, construction of which will begin in 2017, and it will be phased into use between 2018 and 2020. The school will house a primary school, a four-unit nursery school, a leisure centre for the primary school's pupils, a sports hall, and a branch of the Hafnarfjörður Music School. A single name is being sought for the school to cover all the activities that will take place in the building.
The primary school will open in the autumn of 2017 in temporary premises at the Ástjarnar parish hall for one school year, before moving into its new school building.
Proposals for a school name must be received by 7 April.
Proposals for the school's name must be submitted to Fanney D. Halldórsdóttir, Director of Education and Leisure Services for the City of Hafnarfjörður, no later than 7 April 2017 at the following email address: fanney@hafnarfjordur.is or in a sealed envelope to the address of the Education and Leisure Services of Hafnarfjörður Municipality at Linnetsstíg 3, 220 Hafnarfjörður.
The Education Committee of Hafnarfjörður will evaluate the proposals and choose a name for the school this spring.
