We're inviting you to Hafnarfjörður for the first town festival of the summer!
The Bright Days in Hafnarfjörður are taking place from 19th to 23rd April, where the town's institutions, voluntary organisations, businesses and individuals are hosting a wide variety of events.
- HOME – a music festival in private homes on the last day of winter
- The first day of summer in Víðistaðatún
- Walk into town – galleries and artists' studios open on Friday evening
- Brotherhood – a major concert by Friðrik Dór and Jón Jónsson in collaboration with the Hafnarfjörður Music School and Lækjarskóli.
Special emphasis is placed on the participation of children and young people, as the First of May is part of the celebrations. Various musical events play a major part in this year's Bright Days programme, and on Friday evening, museums and artists' studios will be open late. Additionally, individuals, choirs and various societies are organising a wide range of events, and the town's cultural institutions are offering an entertaining programme.
The HEIMA music festival Now in its fourth year, it has truly established itself as a fun and unique music festival, offering a different experience and a greater sense of intimacy than concert-goers and artists are used to. As before, families will open their homes in the centre of Hafnarfjörður, and in each house, two different artists or bands will perform. This year, there are thirteen artists in total, and they will all perform twice in their respective HEIMA house in the town centre. They are not all playing at the same time, so those who are most diligent about strolling between houses can see quite a few performances.
A varied family programme will be on May Day in Víðistaðatún. The day begins with a cross-country run and ends with a lorry rally, and the townspeople are also invited to sail in dinghies and keelboats at Flensburg Harbour.
The strength and vibrancy of the arts scene in Hafnarfjörður has, among other things, been reflected in the event. Walk into town Artists, designers and craftspeople from the area, from the small boat harbour to the centre of Hafnarfjörður, open their studios and welcome visitors. On this evening, Hafnarborg and the Folk Museum are also open until 22:00. At Hafnarborg, the career of Hafnarfjörður's Artist in Residence, who will be appointed on the last day of winter, will be specially reviewed. The Culture and Tourism Committee will also award grants for events and cultural activities.
Grand Concert Brotherhood The brothers Friðrik Dór and Jón Jónsson will be at the Strandgata Sports Hall on Saturday, 22nd April at 14:00 and 16:00. 12 songs will be performed, arranged by teachers from the Hafnarfjörður Music School. Around 200 students from the music school and the Lækjarskóli choir will perform songs such as Fröken Reykjavík, Ljúft að vera til, Gefðu allt sem þú átt and more. A rehearsal will take place on 19 April, and the final rehearsal will be in the sports hall at 18:00 on Friday, 21 April. This will be a good opportunity to take photographs or to broadcast live.
