Hafnarfjörður Town Council is holding a public meeting on transport matters, with a focus on the Reykjanesbraut, on Tuesday evening, 17th October at 8 p.m. in the Bæjarbíó.

The meeting will be streamed live on online community – a more specific link will be provided closer to the meeting.

There is a significant backlog of need for major improvements to the Reykjanesbraut within Hafnarfjörður. A huge increase in traffic on the Reykjanesbraut is causing a high risk of accidents and long queues of cars form during peak times. The junctions and roundabouts on the section from Kaplakriki to Lækjargata have the highest accident rate in the capital region, and numerous serious accidents have also occurred on the straight section of the Reykjanesbraut from the cemetery south of Straumsvík. A demand is being made on the authorities to ensure road safety on the Reykjanesbraut and for residents to be able to get to and from their homes in a reasonable manner, without having to put themselves in grave danger on a daily basis. Hafnarfjörður residents also welcome the construction of a roundabout at the junction of Krýsuvíkurvegur and the Reykjanesbraut, which should be the first step towards improving transport within the town.

 Agenda:

  •  Quote – Haraldur L. Haraldsson, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður
  • Current plan – prospective plan – Þormóður Sveinsson, Planning Officer, City of Hafnarfjörður
  • State of Emergency – Hrafnhildur R. Halldórsdóttir, resident of Setberg
  • „I nearly died“ – Sindri Blær Gunnarsson, a student at Flensborg who was involved in a serious collision on the Reykjanesbraut.
  • Optimal solutions – Lilja Guðríður Karlsdóttir, Transport Engineer at Viaplan
  • The Road Administration's Perspective – Hreinn Haraldsson, Director of Road Administration
