The big harvest day will be held on Saturday. 25th April on Earth Day 2020.

The Big Litter Pick will be held on World Environment Day, 25th April. The City of Hafnarfjörður encourages residents and businesses in Hafnarfjörður to take an active part in the day and pick litter like the wind in their local area or in other well-chosen areas. Rubbish bags can be collected from the Service Desk at Strandgata 6 and the Norðurhellu 2 service centre. Litter-pickers are asked to report the locations where bags have been left via The council's feedback portal where you can take a photo with precise location information. You can also take unclassified rubbish to the Terra container located by the Krónan store at Flatahraun.

Through Suggestion portal It is also advisable to point out to the local council any areas that need special cleaning, or to offer suggestions on anything else that could be improved.

Take part in a national litter pick!

The situation in many households is now such that everyone needs some exercise and everyone wants to do something constructive. This year, the Great Plokk Day, in light of the current circumstances, is being taken on short notice and with empty hands. Plokkers across the country have planned to litter pick in two shifts on the Big Plokk Day – the first shift is from 10 am on Saturday morning and the second from 1 pm. Use the next few days to look around on your way to work or during your walks and find an area that deserves to be picked clean on Saturday. Then let's make it count on Saturday!

Do you want to be a leader in your neighbourhood?

The organisers of Big Tidy-Up Day have called for leaders in all neighbourhoods. Dynamic individuals who are ready to lead their neighbourhoods, create an event on the neighbourhood's social media, get everyone to litter pick at 10 a.m. and then at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and choose locations that need tidying up. Usually around supermarkets, petrol stations, major junctions and thoroughfares. The „pickers“ can also be directed towards schools and playgrounds. Organisers have offered to produce signs for the neighbourhoods. Requests for such signs for specific neighbourhoods should be sent to: einarbardar@mac.com

Let's show love to the environment and the community through our actions.

Litter picking gives people an opportunity to combine being outdoors and exercise, as well as showing love for the environment and the community through action. Plogging beautifies the environment, but there are many areas where nature is in a poor state from plastic and various kinds of rubbish after a stormy winter. Lockdown is the perfect opportunity to tackle this while plogging. Just make sure to observe the 2-metre rule, be mindful of hygiene and wear gloves!

The 2020 picking season is officially underway!
