Improvements to open playgrounds
There are numerous playgrounds and pitches in the town, and each year work is carried out on their maintenance and renewal. In recent weeks, work has included improvements to open play areas in the inner parts of Teigabyggð, Álfholt and Stekkjarhvammur.

In our town there are numerous playgrounds and football pitches and each year they are maintained and renewed.
In recent weeks, work has included improvements to open playgrounds deep in Teigabyggð, Álfholt and Stekkjarhvamm.
At the playing field in Teigabyggð, the paving was repaired, new nets were fitted to the football goals, and the fall-protection layer was replaced with a gravel base and artificial grass on top. In addition, a work-school group has laid turf around the playing field.
At the playgrounds in Álfholt and Stekkjarhvamm, the sub- and topsoil were renewed, a new swing was installed in Stekkjarhvamm, and paving slabs were laid. An outdoor barbecue will then be installed at Stekkjarhvamm.
Staff from the Department of Environment and Planning have been working on these projects with specialist contractors. In addition, summer staff and staff from the Work Experience Programme are involved in the final finishing of the areas.
In the coming weeks, the surfacing and some of the play equipment will be renewed on three further playgrounds in Ljósabergi, Blikaás and the area between Steina- and Fjóluhlíð.
Improvements to public playgrounds
Our town has numerous playgrounds and playing fields that are maintained and improved each year.
Over the past few weeks, we have been working on the playgrounds in the innermost part of Teigabyggð, Álfholt and Stekkjarhvammur.
The paving at the playground in Teigabyggð was repaired and new nets were installed in the football goalposts. In addition, the fall protection layer was replaced with a gravel underlay and artificial grass was laid on top. Furthermore, a team of workers from Vinnuskólinn (Work School) has laid new turf around the playground.
At the playgrounds in Álfholt and Stekkjarhvammur, the underlay and overlay were renewed, a new swing was installed in Stekkjarhvammur and paving laid. An outdoor barbecue will also be set up at Stekkjarhvammur.
The employees of the Environmental and Planning Division have been involved in these projects with the help of expert contractors. In addition, summer employees and the staff of Vinnuskólinn (Work School) have been hard at work finishing these areas.
Over the next few weeks, the underlay and some of the playground equipment will be renewed in the playgrounds in Ljósaberg, Blikaás and the area between Steinahlíð and Fjóluhlíð.
