Sweet concerts

The concert, entitled Sweet Tones, will feature arias from the operas La bohème and Tosca by Puccini, and Adriana Lecouvreur by Cilea. Soprano Hanna Þóra Guðbrandsdóttir will perform, accompanied by pianist Antónia Hevesi.

Hanna Þóra Guðbrandsdóttir She began her singing studies at the Akranes Music School in 1996 and subsequently studied at the Reykjavík School of Singing, where she passed her final examination in the spring of 2005. She has also studied singing in Copenhagen, Oslo and Berlin over the years, in addition to attending masterclasses and singing lessons with various renowned teachers. In the summer of 2008, Hanna Þóra was selected to take part in the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, one of the world's largest competitions for young, up-and-coming opera singers. She has sung as a soloist with various choirs and at church services. She has also frequently performed with the Icelandic Opera, both with its chorus and as a soloist. Hanna Þóra was a soloist in the opera Ragnheiði by Gunnar Þórðarson and Friðrik Erlingsson, which was staged by the Icelandic Opera in 2014. She then performed a role in the opera The Poet and the Bishop's Daughter by Alexandra Chernyshova and Guðrún Ásmundsdóttir, which premiered in the Hallgrímskirkja in Saurbær in the spring of 2014. Hanna Þóra has also performed the soprano role in Camille Saint-Saëns's Oratorio de Noël and performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with the chamber group Reykjavík Barokk. In July 2015, Hanna Þóra sang the role of Gerhilde in Wagner's Die Walküre in the Norwegian Opera's summer programme. Hanna Þóra has sung in the Classical Concert Company Reykjavík concert series since its inception. She has been active in organising various concerts, with an emphasis on promoting the cultural life of her home town of Akranes and the Westfjords region. Hanna Þóra was named Akranes's Artist of the Year in 2011.

Antonia Hevesi, a pianist, has been the artistic director of the lunchtime concerts at Hafnarborg from the very beginning, where she has enlisted many of the country's leading singers. The lunchtime concerts are usually on the programme at Hafnarborg on the first Tuesday of every month during the winter season.
