The cosiest home town of the capital region

The Christmas issue aims to present the Christmas town of Hafnarfjörður to its residents and friends in Garðabær and Kópavogur as a welcoming town that has everything to offer when it comes to experiences, shopping and services. In recent years, a number of new businesses and shops have seen an opportunity for opening and growth in the expanding community, and this growth is not just in the town centre but also, and especially, in other areas of the town, as can be seen in the coverage and content of the Christmas magazine. The Christmas magazine is available at Fjarðarkaup, Firði Shopping Centre, the City of Hafnarfjörður service centre, the Hafnarfjörður Library, and in cafés in the town centre.
The key is the community's interest and encouragement.
This seems to be, for example, the ideology behind the corner shop, The concept of a gourmet shop and art studio appears to be materialising in the opening of such shops, and it is clear that the people of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town from across the country greatly appreciate unique and distinctive shops alongside other important and traditional retail and services. The key is the community's interest and encouragement, not least through shopping locally. The Marketing Office of Hafnarfjörður, in collaboration with the City of Hafnarfjörður, has focused on promoting Hafnarfjörður as an attractive town for living, working and doing business. The 2020 Christmas magazine contains information about unique places, the town's distinctiveness, The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður, the people who make up the town, delicious recipes, as well as an Advent greeting from the mayor, who encourages the people of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town to have fun together during Advent in Hafnarfjörður.
Let's have fun together in Hafnarfjörður – where the heart beats
Hafnarfjörður has probably never been more Christmassy and cosy during Advent than it is right now. The white, gentle Christmas lights have warmed and delighted us, the town's residents and visitors, for the past few weeks, but the decision was made to put the lights up in the town centre much earlier than before. The reaction has been very positive, convincing us that if ever there was a need to brighten up the town, it was this autumn. It is wonderful to see how bright and beautiful the town looks now during the short days.

We place great emphasis on making Hafnarfjörður a pleasant place to visit during Advent, to enjoy and have fun together. Hafnarfjörður has become a true Christmas town where families and groups of friends experience a warm and relaxed Christmas atmosphere. It has been particularly pleasing to see how many people visit us from the neighbouring municipalities, drawn to the Christmas spirit that fills the town. The Christmas houses in the Christmas village and the decorations around it are always a great attraction. There you can buy art and handicrafts, gourmet food and other lovely items for Christmas presents. And, given the circumstances, surprise events will now pop up at various times and places in the town centre, instead of the usual advertised entertainment programme. The Hellisgerði Botanical Garden has this year been beautifully decorated and adorned with lovely Christmas lights. We will be able to experience a true Christmas wonderland in this beautiful garden, amidst lava fields and cliffs in their winter attire.
Welcome to Hafnarfjörður, where the Christmas heart beats and a warm atmosphere reigns.
With Christmas greetings,
Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor
