The Minister for Justice has appointed Sigríður Kristinsdóttir to the position of Constable for the Capital Region, with effect from 1 January 2021. Sigríður has resigned from her position with the City of Hafnarfjörður, and the post of Director of the Administrative Services Department is now open for applications. The deadline for applications is 20 January.
The Minister of Justice has appointed Sigríður Kristinsdóttir to the position of Constable for the Capital Region, effective from 1 January 2021. Sigríður has worked as the legal counsel for the City of Hafnarfjörður since 2015 and as Director of the Administration Department since 2016, in addition to serving as deputy mayor. Sigríður has left her position with the City of Hafnarfjörður, and the position of Director of the Administration Department at the City of Hafnarfjörður is now open for applications.

Director of the Administrative Department
Hafnarfjörður is seeking a strong individual for the position of Director of the Administration Department, who will have a leadership and coordination role in the city's administration and services.
The Administration Department oversees the services provided by the City Offices of Hafnarfjörður to the residents of the municipality and others who seek their assistance, guided by high-quality case handling. The main responsibilities of the Administration Department are administration, legal matters and human resources. The following areas fall under the Administration Department: administration, legal affairs, records management, human resources and quality management.
Key responsibilities and duties
- Day-to-day management and operation of the administrative department
- Preparation for meetings of the Town Council and Borough Council
- Responsibility for ensuring that the policies and decisions of the Town Council are implemented through the provision of information to the council's professional departments and within budgetary authority.
- Responsibility for the effectiveness of the town's system of governance and oversight of central administration and support services.
- Deputy Mayor in his absence
Educational and competency requirements
- University degree relevant to the role; postgraduate education an advantage.
- Proven experience in management and personnel management
- Knowledge and experience of public administration, policy-making, negotiation and management.
- Leadership skills and excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Vision, ambition, initiative and organisational skills
- Ability to communicate knowledge, and present arguments and information in Icelandic and English.
