Dental care, maths, singing and entertainment
Festivities have been taking place in the nurseries all week, in a very varied way. This has included station-based work with fun and exciting activities that engage and delight the children, as well as a change of pace in the afternoon snack. Toothcare Week began at the start of the week, and the school activities over the last few days have included a focus on the importance of good dental health. The children have therefore been working on projects about dental health, singing songs, telling stories and talking with staff about what is good for their teeth and what is not. A special maths week has also been running around the International Day of Mathematics on 4th February, and children and teachers have had a fantastic time with maths puzzles and activities. The nursery school is a diverse learning community for the youngest pupils, where children engage in various activities that support them in play and work.

About Nursery School Day
The Association of Play School Teachers, the Ministry of Education, the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and Home-School are organising „Play School Day“ on 6 February, as on that day in 1950, pioneering play school teachers founded their first association. The aim of the day is to highlight the importance of nursery schools for children and to create a positive image of nursery education. The day is also intended to draw attention to the status of the nursery school, its value to the nation's wealth and to all culture. This is the 14th time the day has been formally celebrated.
