At a meeting of the Executive Board of the Civil Protection Committee for the Capital Region, held just before Christmas, a decision was made to cancel New Year's Eve bonfires in the capital region for the upcoming New Year.

The decision has been taken in light of the current public health restrictions, which limit gatherings to 50 people, and the high level of community transmission. Bonfires attract large crowds, and the local authorities wish to demonstrate responsibility by cancelling them this year. It is clear that New Year's Eve will once again be different this year due to COVID-19. We are all civil defence; let's continue to work together to reduce infections and get to a better place.
