Winter holiday in Hafnarfjörður

There will be a half-term holiday in the primary schools of Hafnarfjörður on Monday and Tuesday, 21st-22nd February, and elsewhere in the country. On this occasion, among other things... Free swimming for children and adults these days at Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar.

The health town of Hafnarfjörður in collaboration with The Idea Bank offers children and their families the chance to try a fun treasure hunt in their local area during the winter holidays, which has been put together by Margrét Ýr Ingimarsdóttir, a mother of two and a teacher at Hvaleyrarskóli. The weather is good for various winter sports, and it's the perfect time to get out the snowmobiles, boards and skis and have a go on the nearest slope or the cross-country ski trails that have been laid out in Óla Run Tún and Hvaleyrarvöllur .

Hafnarfjörður Library will be running an encryption workshop and all sorts of books for young and aspiring spies during the winter break. The Children's and Young People's Department welcomes primary school children, games will be available throughout the library, and Intrix will also be on hand from 6 p.m. on Tuesday with their virtual reality equipment, and you're welcome to come along and give it a go – the equipment is suitable for children aged 6 and over and is also great fun for mums and dads.

Warehouse of the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum will be open during the winter holidays and you can take part in a fun and educational treasure hunt that leads the whole family around the museum, try being an archaeologist on the dig site or play old computer games such as Space Invaders and Super Mario Bros. Then offers Port city Primary school children to come and take part in fun and creative art workshops run by the museum.

• Emotional Spectrum Art Workshop at Hafnarborg, 13:00–15:00. A variety of techniques will be offered for creating artworks, with a focus on the use of colour and its connection to emotions. The workshop is suitable for primary school-aged children, but everyone who wants to take part is welcome. More on hafnarborg.is
• Author visiting Hafnarfjörður Library at 5 p.m. Þórunn Jarla Valdimarsdóttir reads from her book, The Town is Burning.

Tuesday, 22 February
