Cultural and health walks in Hafnarfjörður 2022

The first walk of the summer will be on Wednesday 1 June. This summer, guided town walks are offered every Wednesday. Most walks take about an hour, participation is free and everyone is welcome. The walks are a collaboration between the Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and the Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður.

Come out for a walk/play every Wednesday this summer

The walks are a collaboration between the Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður. Please note that the programme is subject to change. 

1st June at 20:00 – House in the Lava Field 
Jónatan Garðarsson leads a walk to the first and third houses of Hreinn Friðfinnsson. Please note that this walk will take about two hours. The path from the Works, on the east side of the Aluminium Smelter.

8th June at 8 p.m. – Aluminium Walk 
Silja Gunnarsdóttir, owner of alfar.is, leads a walk along the paths of the elves and tells the stories of elves, dwarves and hidden folk along the way. The walk from Hafnarfjörður Town Hall to Strandgatayou 6th.

15th June at 17:00 – Children's Walk 
Hildigunnur Sigvaldadóttir leads the younger generation on an adventurous journey through art. A walk from Hafnarfjörður Library to Hellisgerði and back. 

22nd June at 18:00 – Guided walk through nature 
Jónatan Garðarson leads a walk up Seldalsháls to Stórhöfði. From the car park on the west side of Lake Hvaleyrarvatn (near Vogar) 

29th June at 20:00 – Around the Hammer
Ólafur Þ. Harðarson leads a walk around the Hammer and talks about the history of schools and sports in the area. The Flensburg School Group. 

6th July at 8 p.m. – Ha ha around Hafnarfjörður 
Einar Skúlason from Wappin leads visitors and passers-by along amusing trails in the South Town of Hafnarfjörður, cracking out a selection of his favourite Hafnarfjörður jokes along the way.  From the Firði Shopping Centre 

13th July at 20:00 – A meditation on elves, a walk and a guided tour 
Bryndís Björgvisdóttir, writer, historian and folklorist, and Aldís Arnardóttir, director of Hafnarborg, lead a walk where they explore thoughts on elves and creatures in the rocks. The walk from Hafnarborg ends with a guided tour of Gunnar Arnar Gunnarsson's exhibition at Hafnarborg. 

20th July at 19:30 – The Good Old Days 

On 20th July, Arnar Ragnarsson, a coach and youth worker, will lead this week's games and health walk. Arnar will walk with the group around the town and show and teach various games suitable for all age groups. The walk will start from the barbecue hut in Víðistaðartún at 19:30. We especially encourage families to attend.

27 July at 20:00 – Youth trails in the South Town 
Leifur Helgason leads a walk through his childhood haunts in the South Town. The walk from Gúttó (7 South Street).

3rd August at 17:00 – A walk to Arnarvatn 
Davíð Arnar Stefánsson is leading a walk to Arnarvatn. If the weather is good, it's the perfect opportunity to bring a blanket, a picnic and have a dip in the lake. The path from the car park at Seltún, Grindavík. 

10 August at 17:00 – Wild edible plants in Hafnarfjörður 
Mervi Orvokki Luoma leads guests around Hafnarfjörður in search of delicious, wild herbs. The walk from Hafnarfjörður Library 

17 August at 20:00 – Around one of Klifsholtanna

Valgerður M. Hróðmarsdóttir will lead a walk around one of the Klifsholt hills, to Lambgjá and Smyrlabúð, with a stop at the garden plot of the Rotary and Lions Clubs of Hafnarfjörður. The path from the car park at Helgafell.

24th August at 17:00 – Silent Walk at Stórhöfði 
Guðbjörg Björnsdóttir and Ingibjörg Valgeirsdóttir, owners of the educational company Saga Story House, will lead a mindfulness walk at Stórhöfði. It is a gentle walk with guided mindfulness exercises, which will be partly conducted in silence. From the car park on the west side of Lake Hvaleyrarvatn (near Vogar) 

31 August at 20:00 – The Story, the Museum and the Old Town 
Björn Pétursson, the Hafnarfjörður town archaeologist, leads a walk through the old town. From the Packhouse of the Folk Museum, 6 Vesturgata.
