On 29 August, the sports and leisure clubs of Hafnarfjörður will come together to present their activities to children and their parents at the sports hall on Strandgata.

Recreational Mass in Hafnarfjörður

There are 28 sports clubs in Hafnarfjörður. A wide variety of sports can be found within them. Many of them will be at the leisure fair on 29 August, offering children demonstrations and trials.

The Leisure Fair will be full of life, with children getting the chance to try out all sorts of sports they might be interested in. In addition, our leisure centres and leisure groups will be on hand to promote their activities. You will be able to have a chat about the leisure grant.

The bridge builders will be on site to ensure that people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds can also take part.

The purpose of the leisure service is to help children in the municipality find a sport or leisure activity that suits them. With the wide range of activities on offer in the Health Capital of Hafnarfjörður, everyone should truly be able to find something to suit their taste. We therefore invite the children to explore what's on offer and find an activity that interests them.

  • The leisure service begins at 10:00 and lasts until 14:00.

Who will be there?

  1. Hafnarfjörður Badminton Club

    Badminton is a fast and fun sport suitable for people of all ages. At the Badminton Association of Hafnarfjörður, you can train at your own pace, whether your goal is to compete or to enjoy some good exercise. Just over 700 people train with the club.   2. Hafnarfjörður Badminton Club Table Tennis Section

    Table tennis is a fun and fast-paced sport that can be played for pleasure or competitively. Around 100 people of all ages play table tennis at BH. Information on training times and registration is available onBadminton Association. A request must be made for a trial onbh@bhbadminton.is. The club lends spades and balls and practitioners You only need comfortable sportswear and indoor shoes to get started.

  3. The Archery Club Hrói Höttur

    Archery is a varied sport that suits a wide range of people. practitioner. You can try different types of bows, practise for pleasure or aim to take part in tournaments and competitions. Around 90 practitioners are with the Hrói Hetti Archery Club. The club provides beginners with all the necessary equipment. Registration takes place atBig Fat Hot Dog.

  4. Hafnarfjörður Dance Sports Club

    Hafnarfjörður Dance Sport Club offers ballroom dancing, children's dancing, salsa, bachata and Zumba. The youngest the practitioners are two to three years old and they train for free until Christmas. Around 300 students study with the club each year. Training begins on 5 September and ends with a Christmas ball and a student performance. Registration takes place at Abler or by email todihdans@simnet.is. Further information is available atdih.is.

  5. The Gaflo School

    At Gaflós School, children and young people get to experience drama and improvisation in a creative and fun environment. The emphasis is on enjoyment and training in the basic techniques of drama, rather than the final outcome. Around 120 students attend the school. Registration takes place at Gaflar Theatre and the only necessary equipment is a good mood.

  6. The Riding Club Sörli

    At the Sörli Clubhouse, children and young people aged 9–18 can experience the world of adventure of the Icelandic horse without owning their own horse. They learn how to handle horses and go on rides, but it is also possible to hire a space for your own horse. Over a thousand members practise equestrian sports on Sörli's grounds.   7. Hafnarfjörður Boxing Club

    Boxing promotes, among other things, self-confidence, discipline, strength, stamina, speed and coordination. The training sessions at the Hafnarfjörður Boxing Club are varied, challenging and fun, and around 120 practitioners to train at the club. You can read more about the boxing atthe society's homepage.   8. Hafnarfjörður School of Choreography

    The Hafnarfjörður School of Choreography offers a diverse range of dance courses, including jazz, commercial, musical theatre dance, ballet, contemporary dance and silks. Emphasis is placed on a good social life and students can take part in competitions, performances, events and training trips. Around 350 practitioners are at the school, which won two world championship titles on Dance World Cup in Dublin last summer.   9. Sambo 80

    Sambo is a self-defence and grappling sport for both beginners and advanced practitioners. In training sessions, emphasis is placed on discipline, strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination under the guidance of highly experienced and internationally qualified coaches. Around 45 practitioners to practise with Sambo 80. You can book a trial session by email at helga@1312.is. To start with, sports trousers and a T-shirt are enough.

  10. The Hraunbúar Scout Group

    Scouting is an adventurous and varied activity that is open to all. Children and young people learn from experience, work together and tackle exciting challenges in the outdoors. In doing so, they develop self-confidence, independence, responsibility and leadership skills, among other things. Around 190 practitioners are with the Hraunbúa. Registration takes place at Abler and no special equipment is needed to get started, just warm clothes suitable for the weather.

  11. Hafnarfjörður Music School

    The Hafnarfjörður Music School offers a diverse music programme for around 600 students. You can learn to play a wide range of instruments, pursuing either traditional or rhythmic studying music and taking part in a vibrant orchestra programme. Students can hire most instruments from the school, with certain exceptions. Information about the programme and applications is available at tonhaf.is and by telephone on 555 2704. 

  12. Gymnastics Club Björk

    PThe Björk sports club is a multi-disciplinary club offering gymnastics, climbing and taekwondo. The gymnastics department includes, among other things, apparatus gymnastics and group gymnastics, parkour, adult gymnastics and groups for the youngest the practitioners.   13. The Sailing Club Þytur

    At sailing training, children and young people learn to steer a boat, handle sails and read the weather and sea conditions. Sailing combines knowledge of nature, technology, endurance and safety. The club provides the necessary sailing equipment for beginners. Sto crown is going throughm Abler.

  14. Hafnarfjörður Swimming Club

    Hafnarfjörður Swimming Club offers swimming for children from the age of three, juniors and adults. You can learn to swim, improve your swimming skills or train with the aim of competing in the swimming pools of Hafnarfjörður.   15. Haukar Football Club

    Haukar's football department emphasises ambition, professionalism and a strong team spirit in a positive and safe environment. The aim is for everyone to have the opportunity to develop and enjoy football, both on and off the pitch. New players are welcome to come and try a training session. Registration is through Abler. 

  16. Keilir Golf Club

    Golf is a family-friendly sport that combines skill, concentration, exercise and the great outdoors. The sport builds self-discipline and strategic thinking, whilst also offering excellent company. Beginners can borrow golf clubs from the club. Registration is via keilir.is.

  17. Haukar Karate Club

    Karate promotes discipline, agility and sportsmanship. Beginners only need light sportswear but can later train in a karate gi. Further information is available at KdH.is. Registration is through Abler.  

  18. FH Athletics Department

    Athletics consists of running, jumping and throwing, providing a solid foundation for general physical fitness. The training develops strength, agility, coordination and endurance, among other things. Everyone is welcome to try a session at Kaplakriki and information is available on fh.is/frjalsar.

  19. Hafnarfjörður Ski Club

    At the Hafnarfjörður Skateboard Club, children and young people can skateboard, snowboard and BMX and enjoy themselves on their own terms. Around 350 practitioners are with the club. Equipment can be borrowed for skateboarding and BMX training, but practitioners Need your own equipment for snowboarding training. Leisure and Sports Fair in Hafnarfjörður

On 29 August, sports and leisure clubs in Hafnarfjörður will gather at the sports hall on Strandgata to showcase their activities to children and their parents. The aim of the fair is to help children find a sport or leisure activity that suits them.

There are 38 sports clubs operating in Hafnarfjörður, offering a wide variety of sports disciplines. Many of these can be explored at the fair, where clubs offer both introductory presentations and trial sessions.

Representatives from „The Bridge Builders“ will be on-site to ensure that people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds can also participate.

The fair runs from 10:00 to 14:00.

On Saturday 29 August, the Sports and Extracurricular Activities Fair will be held in the sports hall on Strandgata. Clubs and organisers from Hafnarfjörður will present their offerings to children and parents.
