The Weekend – Adventure Worlds, a Singing Party and St. Jó's 100th Anniversary
A varied and enjoyable weekend is ahead in Hafnarfjörður from 4–6 September. Home and the heavens will take over the new Library of Hafnarfjörður, there will be singing under the open sky in Hellisgerði, St. Joseph's Hospital celebrates its 100th anniversary, and music will echo in the Bæjarbíó.
Worlds and universes all weekend
The weekend is busy in Hafnarfjörður. The biggest event is without a doubt the fancy dress and games gathering. Earths and Heavens which takes place in the new premises of the Hafnarfjörður Library in Firði from Friday to Sunday.
Where cosplayers, artists, gamers and families meet for a whole weekend of creativity, competitions, workshops, presentations and gaming. Everyone is welcome – in costume or not – because the festival's most important message is to be yourself, let your imagination run wild, and remember that we are never too old to play.
- At the festival, there will be competitions in cosplay, including a youth category, a general cosplay category and a craftsmanship category. The winner of the craftsmanship category will earn the right to compete for Iceland at the Nordic Cosplay Championship in Sweden.
The festival has grown rapidly, but attendance was around 10,000 in 2025 and about five thousand in its first year.
Singing together in Hellisgerði
The Days of Happiness are taking place in Hafnarfjörður and on Friday evening there will be a veritable Happy Singing Party with Guðrún Árný in Hellisgerði.
Guðrún Árný leads guests in singing under the open sky in the garden's unique setting. The sing-along party starts at 8 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to come along, join in, and kick off the weekend with song and joy.
St. Joe celebrates its 100th anniversary
On Saturday, 5th September, there will be Open house at the St. Jó Centre for Quality of Life from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to mark the 100th anniversary of St. Joseph's Hospital.
A guided tour of the building will be on offer, where the history of the hospital, its operations and the people who worked there will be recounted. Photographs and historical accounts will be on display in the corridors, along with photo exhibitions on the second and third floors. A list of the names of the sisters who worked at St Joseph's Hospital will also be unveiled.
Two different concert evenings at the Town Cinema
Do you want to sing more? On Friday 4 September at 8 pm, Stebbi JAK release concert at Bæjarbíó for his new solo album, Look around you. The album will be performed in its entirety before the interval, but after the interval, songs from Stebbi's varied career will be performed.
On Saturday 5th September at 8 p.m., the heavy metal band will take to the stage. A misery For the first time on the Bæjarbíós stage. The band is known for their powerful live performances and a unique blend of hardcore and heavy metal, and has performed at major music festivals around the world.
Art and cultural history
Two new exhibitions are now on display at Hafnarborg.
- At the autumn show The prophecy Six artists work with the exhibition space itself as their subject, both as a physical space and a concept.
- Also, a solo exhibition by Frost Fjalarr is currently on display., Aurora Borealis. Both exhibitions run until 1 November.
The Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm, and admission is free. In the Packhouse, you can, among other things, see the exhibition. The handball town of Hafnarfjörður, which traces the history of handball in the town from 1925 to the present day. There is also the permanent exhibition So it was… and a toy exhibition for children and adults.
Being in the Little Gallery
A solo exhibition by Gudny Magnúsdóttir, To be, is on display at the Little Gallery on Strandgata. In her work, Guðný explores the body as a living record of memories, experiences and transformations, and reflects on the relationship between body, soul and inner wisdom.
