  The Education Committee endorses the proposal and unanimously approves the appointment for its part, referring the proposal to the Town Council for final decision.

  A letter dated 16 April 2008 from the headteacher of Hraunvallaskóli was presented, requesting that drop-down walls be installed on the 3rd floor of Building B (Phase 1) and the 3rd floor of Building C (Phase 2).

  The Education Committee welcomes the proposal and refers it to the executive for further processing.

• 0804175 – Symposium of primary school parents' associations in Hafnarfjörður

  A letter dated 8th April from representatives of the parents' associations of Hafnarfjörður's primary schools was presented, requesting a grant for a seminar on children's and teenagers' internet use, which was held on 15th April.

  The matter was received favourably and referred to the department manager for action.

• 0804176 – School Health Challenge 2008 – Application for a grant

  A letter dated March 2008 from Andres Gudmundsson, on behalf of Icefitness ehf., which is organising the national School Health competition for the second time, was presented. A grant of 200,000 kr. is requested for the project.

  Referred to the joint processing of grant applications in the autumn.

  The Education Committee has no comments on the planning conditions with regard to school matters.

• 0801403 – Fields 7, new nursery school

  Tender documents were submitted for the design and consultancy for a six-class nursery school at Völlum 7.

• 0804228 – Hvammur - increased management share

  A letter dated 15 April from the Headteacher at Hvammur was presented, requesting an increase in the assistant headteacher's management ratio to 100:1 due to the expansion of the nursery.

  The Education Council agrees that, in conjunction with the expansion of the nursery school to 6 classes, the management ratio for the deputy head teacher will be increased to 100%.

• 0804230 – Hlíðarendi - alterations to premises 2008

  Requests have been made for improvements to the staff facilities and teaching areas of the nursery school.

  The Education Committee directs the Executive to examine, as a matter of urgency, the possibilities for improvements in this matter, and at the same time a possible expansion of the nursery school.
