      The Sports and Leisure Officer presented the work on preparations for the proposal to build a new riding arena, which is being carried out between the City of Hafnarfjörður and the Riding Club Sörli.

      The Sports and Leisure Committee instructs the Sports Officer, Operations Manager, Head of Leisure Activities and a representative of the Youth Council, Birta Guðný, to sit on a working group to begin preparations for the 17th June celebrations. When the Summer School's activities begin, its managers shall participate in the working group's preparations. A draft plan for the 17th June celebrations must be submitted to the committee by the end of March 2019.

      The Committee on General and Cultural Affairs of the Althingi requests comments on the Bill on Communications Advisers for Sports and Youth Work, 417th matter.

      This is a bill concerning a communications advisor for sports and youth work. The proposal is for the Minister of Education and Culture to appoint a Communications Adviser for Sports and Youth Affairs for a five-year term. This would cover the organised activities of the Icelandic Sports and Olympic Association, the Icelandic Youth Federation and other social and youth organisations. The communications advisor for sports and youth work shall have the task of improving the framework for organisations and associations falling under this Act, in consultation with them. He shall promote the safety of those who participate in the activities of those associations and clubs. The aim is for sports and youth work to take place in a safe environment and for children, adolescents and adults, regardless of gender or other status, can take part in sports or youth work and seek help or redress for incidents and misconduct that occur there without fear of the consequences. Its main tasks would be: To disseminate information, to advise individuals regarding incidents and misconduct, and to advise organisations on responses and policies.

      The committee instructs the sports representative to write a positive review of the bill.
