Increased opportunities for people with disabilities in the labour market

The Wasps offer innovation and vocational training for people with disabilities. People can gain work experience through job training, including those with high support needs. The training takes place in the mainstream job market, and workplaces are chosen based on each individual's interests.

Those who are not interested in vocational training spend the day on social training and other activities. For example, they go swimming, play sports, go on walks and do many other things where staff and participants enjoy each other's company.

Progressive innovation work takes place at Geitungarnir with specialised mentors.

Both group and individual projects are worked on.

We actively work to empower each individual through education, employment and engagement. The service is tailored to each person's abilities and interests. We work from an individual plan where goals are clear and realistic.

The Wasps started in 2015 as a one-year pilot project, and since then the importance of the work has been proven.

Participants lead the way

The project is carried out in collaboration with the participants. They chose the name for the workplace and took an active part in shaping the working environment. Ideas for workplaces and the selection of companies and organisations for work placements come from the participants themselves. Furthermore, the focus of the training and ideas for new creative projects are based on their needs and wishes.

The Wasps' Shop

The wasps have shop at the House at 14 Suðurgata. Goods produced by the Wasps are sold there, with material upcycling as a guiding principle. The shop is open from 8 am to 5 pm every weekday.
