Dwarf stone

On the lawn between Hafnarfjörður Church and the Strandberg parish hall, on the Suðurgata side, is a stone called Dvergasteinn. When the church was built in 1914, it was left standing undisturbed so as not to disturb the protective powers of the stone.

Dvergasteinn stands sheltered by the church, just below the Cliffs, and is unassuming. No one dares to move the stone, for if it is disturbed, the stone's hidden protective spirits will take their revenge. By this stone stood the house Dvergasteinn, where Emil Jónsson, a former mayor and minister, was born and raised.
